Upgrading from Syslog Watcher 2.8

Syslog Watcher 4 uses new enhanced format of data storing. To upgrade the old version of Syslog Watcher (2.х) and get transferred into the new 4.x version we developed a special Syslog Watcher Migration Tool. It allows to transfer all collected syslogs into the new product and also to transform the settings set. To update the installed Syslog Watcher 2.8.0.925, please follow the instructions below.

1. Download the latest version of Syslog Watcher from SnmpSoft website: http://www.snmpsoft.com/downloads.html

Syslog Watcher 4 can be installed without uninstalling the previous version. Do not uninstall version 2.8 before the migration process is over.

2. Launch the downloaded setup file to install the product.
3. Run Syslog Watcher 4 in “Local Server” operating mode and close it. This is necessary for creating working folders and simplifying the process.
4. Download Syslog Watcher Migration Tool from SnmpSoft website: http://www.snmpsoft.com/downloads/SWMigrationTool.exe
5. Launch Migration Tool; it does not require installation.



6. Select the edition of Syslog Watcher 2 which you used before and from which the data will be imported.
7. Make sure that the path in the Syslog folder (Syslog Watcher 2.8) field corresponds to the correct path where the storage is located.
8. Click the Convert button to generate Storage.syslog file. This file will contain all data from the old syslog storage and can be imported into Syslog Watcher 4.

Make sure there is enough free disk space to convert all the data. The process can take longer time in case there is big volume of data.

9. Click the Transfer button to import program settings from version 2.8 and save it in v4 format.

It does not make difference what edition the data is migrating from (Standard, Pro – Application Mode, etc.); the settings will be saved for the local Syslog Watcher 4 service (not for standalone application mode).

10. Close Syslog Watcher Migration Tool.
11. Launch Syslog Watcher 4 in “Local Sever” operation mode, open program settings and examine all settings groups. This is very important, as not all of the settings get converted in a proper way and it is necessary to check them.
12. Click the Import button on the Main Toolbar and select Storage.syslog file which was exported before.



13. Import process can take longer time.
14. You can uninstall Syslog Watcher 2.8 as soon as the process is finalized.
